    Make your own color-coded map

    amapmaker is a free map maker: pick a color, click countries, and download a clean PNG or SVG of your custom map. Use it for travel maps, geography lessons, election-style charts, or any map that needs a legend. When you have numbers instead of colors, paste them in and get a choropleth map.

    How it works

    1. Pick a paint from the palette, or choose a custom color.
    2. Click or tap countries to color them, or drag across several to color them in one sweep. Click again with the same paint to clear it.
    3. Label your legend and give the map a title.
    4. Download the map as PNG or SVG, or save the project file to keep editing later.

    Shade the map from data (choropleth)

    Have numbers instead of colors in mind? Open Data and paste two spreadsheet columns: country names or ISO codes with a value, like Germany, 83.2. The map shades every matched region from low to high with a numeric legend. Pick the number of classes, equal-count or equal-range breaks, and a color ramp, then download the choropleth map as PNG or SVG.

    Eight maps included

    This world map shows all 241 countries and territories. For a closer look there are dedicated maps of Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, and Oceania, plus a US states map with all 50 states and DC. Each map keeps its own colors, legend, and title.

    Private by design

    Everything runs in your browser. Your maps are never uploaded. They autosave on your device, and you can save a project file to back them up or move them to another computer.

    How many countries are on the world map?

    241 regions: every UN member state plus dependent territories and separately drawn areas such as Kosovo, Taiwan, Western Sahara, and Greenland.

    Is amapmaker free?

    Yes. Everything is free: coloring, legends, the Data dialog, and PNG and SVG downloads. No account, no watermark.

    Where are my maps saved?

    In your own browser. Nothing is uploaded; each map autosaves on your device, and Save project gives you a file you can back up or open on another computer.

    Should I download PNG or SVG?

    PNG is ready for slides, documents, and social posts. SVG stays sharp at any size and opens in vector editors like Figma, Illustrator, or Inkscape.

    Map data: Natural Earth and the US Census Bureau (public domain). Borders follow the source data's sovereign boundaries, so coloring France also colors French Guiana.
