Privacy Policy

Effective August 9, 2026

Map Maker is built so that your data stays with you. There is no account, no signup, and the maps you make are never uploaded to us. This page explains what that means in practice, and what will change if the site starts showing ads.

What we collect

We do not collect personal information. There is no registration, no profile, and no form that sends us your data.

Your maps and pasted data

Maps, legends, styles, and anything you paste into the Data dialog are processed entirely in your browser and saved in your browser's local storage, on your device. They are never transmitted to us or anyone else. Project files you save are ordinary downloads to your own computer. To erase everything, use the clear button in the app or delete this site's data in your browser settings.

Cookies and local storage

We set no tracking cookies. The site uses local storage only to keep your maps and preferences between visits, on your device.

Server logs

Like nearly every website, the server that delivers these pages may keep short-lived technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and uptime. We do not use them to identify visitors.

Advertising (planned)

The site currently shows no ads. We plan to fund it with advertising, most likely Google AdSense. Before any ads go live, this policy will be updated, and from then on: Google and its partners may use advertising cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites; you can read how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com; and visitors in the EEA and UK will be asked for consent before any advertising cookies are set.

Analytics

The site currently runs no analytics. If that changes, we will use a privacy-respecting tool and say so here first.

Children

The site is a general-audience tool. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

Any changes to this policy appear on this page with a new effective date.
