Make a map of the countries you've visited

Turn your travel history into a map you can share. This page starts with a ready-made legend, Visited, Lived, and Planned, so your first click already counts: paint countries on the map or just type their names into the search box. When it looks right, download it as a PNG for social media or copy a share link that opens your exact map for anyone.

How to make a travel map

    1. Pick a paint from the palette, choose a custom color, or open the grid button for more colors and shading patterns (stripes, dots, crosshatch).
    2. Click or tap the countries you have been to to color them; with a mouse you can drag across several to color them in one sweep. Click again with the same paint to clear it.
    3. Label your legend and give the map a title.
    4. Download the map as PNG or SVG, or save the project file to keep editing later.

Count the countries you've visited, automatically

A stats line under the legend keeps score as you paint: how many of the 193 UN countries you've visited, your percent of the world, and a continent-by-continent breakdown (Europe 24/43, Asia 8/47, and so on). It counts the colors labeled Visited and Lived, so planned trips never inflate your number. The map itself has all 241 countries and territories, so places like Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, and Greenland can be colored separately too.

Find small countries by typing their names

Singapore, Malta, and Barbados are hard to click on a world map. The search box on this page fixes that: type a few letters, click the country in the list, and it takes your current color. The list shows each country's current fill, so it doubles as a quick checklist.

Share your travel map with a link

The Share button packs your whole map into the link itself. Nothing is stored on a server: whoever opens the link sees your map, colors, legend, and title, and can keep editing their own copy. It's an easy way to compare travel maps with friends or drop yours in a group chat.

Travel maps of each continent and the US

Been island-hopping or interrailing? The dedicated Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, and Oceania maps show small countries at a comfortable size, and the US states map works the same way for a states-visited map. Each map keeps its own colors, so your world travel map stays untouched.

    Travel map FAQ

How do I count the countries I have visited?

Color them. The stats line under the legend totals the countries painted with your Visited and Lived colors, shows your percent of the 193 UN countries, and breaks it down by continent. Territories are colorable but not counted toward the 193.

Can I share my travel map with friends?

Yes. The Share button copies a link that contains your whole map. Nothing is uploaded; the link itself carries the colors, legend, and title, and opens the map for anyone.

Can I print my travel map as a poster?

Yes. Download the SVG and it scales to any print size without losing sharpness, like a scratch map without the scratching. PNG works well for regular prints and social posts.

    Is Map Maker free?

Yes. Everything is free: coloring, legends, the Data dialog, and PNG and SVG downloads. No account, no watermark.

    Where are my maps saved?

In your own browser. Nothing is uploaded; each map autosaves on your device, and Save project gives you a file you can back up or open on another computer.
