Map Maker

Terms of Use

Effective August 9, 2026

These terms keep things clear between you and the operator of this website ("we"). Short version: the tool is free, the maps you make are yours, and the service comes as it is.

The service

Map Maker is a free, browser-based tool for coloring maps and making choropleths. Everything runs on your device; we host the pages and the map data that powers them.

Your maps

The maps you make belong to you. You can use downloaded maps for anything, personal or commercial, with no attribution required. You are responsible for any content you add to a map (text, images) and for how you use what you export.

Sensible use

Don't attack, overload, or attempt to disrupt the site, and don't use it for anything illegal. That's the whole list.

Map data and accuracy

Region shapes come from public-domain sources: Natural Earth and the US Census Bureau. Borders, names, and territories follow those datasets; some are disputed, simplified, or may become outdated. Maps made here are illustrations. They are not suitable for navigation, legal, or official boundary purposes, and we make no guarantee of accuracy.

Saving your work

Maps are saved in your browser's local storage, which your browser or device can clear at any time. Use Save project to keep file backups. Because nothing is stored on our servers, we cannot recover lost maps.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, lost profits, or lost data arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us to use the service, which is nothing.

Advertising

The site may show third-party ads in the future. How that affects your data is covered in the Privacy Policy.

Changes

We may change or discontinue features, and may update these terms; changes appear here with a new effective date. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
